Description

This (cancelled) certificate of membership, number 1,679, was addressed to Mr. William Maley and represented his position as a member of the Chicago Live Stock Exchange as of April 16th, 1901. A record of transfer on the verso notes that the membership was sold to Mr. Henry Metcalfe.

The Chicago Live Stock Exchange was incorporated on March 13, 1884, to regulate livestock trading at the Union Stock Yards. The organization was supported by assessments on its membership, which was briefly mentioned in the fine print of the certificate. Printed in Chicago by P.F. Pettibone & Company.
