Description
This fascinating report was reprinted in 1973 by railfan Michael S. Rice. It was originally created by the Chicago Tunnel Terminal Corporation to advertise the services made available by a complex network of tunnels dug below Chicago’s downtown. Two fold-outs show a bird’s-eye view of the Loop (with the tunnels highlighted below) and a straightforward map of the overall network.
Though the system is ostensibly designed to deliver freight to the numerous hotels, restaurants, and retail businesses that operate in the congested region, the afterword by Rice references a feasibility study for subterranean passenger transportation!
