Description
This rare and ephemeral map was designed by L.H. Smith of the Cook County Inspection Bureau to accompany a risk assessment report for the 1950 Chicago Fair. A basic outline of the grounds, situated along Lake Michigan near 23rd Street (modern-day McCormick Place), labels various exhibits, attractions, parking areas, and other locations of interest. Construction details like frame buildings and metal roofs are also noted.
The accompanying confidential special report provides additional supplemental information about the event, with comments on fire hazards, available water supplies, and construction methods. A contemporary booklet describing the event is available here.
