Description
“The Colorado River, one of the largest inland water courses in the United States – running rampant through the ages, ever threatening and laying waste the farms and homes of California’s fertile valleys – by man’s ingenuity has been placed under control and transformed into the Southwest’s greatest asset.” – pg 5.
This charming little booklet was authored by E.F. Scattergood, Chief Electrical Engineer and General Manager of the Los Angeles Bureau of Power and Light. It was published in L.A. by the local Department of Water and Power in 1935, the same year Boulder Dam (the centerpiece of the project) was dedicated by President Franklin Roosevelt.
The thirty-page volume provides a history of the Boulder Canyon Project, a description of its general operations, and an analysis of its economic impact on Southern California. A centerfold pictorial view shows a relief map and schematic diagram of the electric transmission system between Boulder Dam and the city of Los Angeles.
