Description

This pair of sheets commemorates the impact (literally) of the 32nd Infantry “Red Arrow” Division in France during World War I. One page provides a sketched overview of the German and American lines as of July 15, 1918. The arrow pierces the German defense in three places – Juvigny, Fismes, and Bantheville (in addition to the rear end of a ‘Jerry’). These engagements are outlined in further stylized detail on the second page, which also offers a short history of the division’s nickname.

The maps were designed and printed by the G-2 (Intelligence) Command Section of the 32nd Infantry Division. Likely issued in late 1918 or 1919.
