Description
This attractive view of the campus of The American University in Washington, D.C. shows the prestigious university oriented with east at the top of the page. Academic buildings, residence halls, and other important structures are finely illustrated amid a faithful recreation of the local landscape, including individual trees, street signs, etc.
A vignette in the lower left shows the School of Social Services and Public Affairs, one of the finest in the world, while a second scene to the right presents the proposed Public Affairs Center. Other proposed improvements, according to a note in the lower left, include the baseball diamond, football fields, and tennis courts.
These details help to date the map to around 1930, at which point much-suggested expansion was temporarily halted due to the Great Depression. Signed L. Miller in the lower center. The map is scarce and unlisted in WorldCat.
