Description
“Regardless of where we may be called to serve during the remainder of this war, each and every one of us will be 75th Infantry Division men as long as we live.” – Major General Ray E. Porter.
This engaging unit history was published in Germany in June, 1945, shortly after Major General Ray Porter was called back to the U.S. for duty as Chief of the Special Planning Division, War Department Special Staff. He pens a heartfelt introduction to the men of the 75th Infantry Division, whom he led for a mere five months.
During this brief period, the 75th was rushed into combat to support beleaguered units during the Battle of the Bulge, aided in the liberation of Colmar, crossed the Rhine River, and fought in the Vosges Mountains. Forty-five pages of text summarize the major actions that took place across an impressive campaign. The booklet includes three folding maps that highlight the unit’s most exemplary accomplishments – The Battle in the Ardennes, the Colmar Pocket, and The Battle for the Ruhr.
