Description

This lovely pictorial map of the Lone Star State was drawn by W. Kirtman Plummer and designed to accompany an article about Fort Worth in the October, 1950 issue of Holiday Magazine. Exaggerated illustrations on a custom projection highlight the economic and industrial diversity of Texas, from the oil refineries along the coast to the lumberyards of Texarkana. Agricultural products, animal husbandry, and recreational activities are also well-represented.

Racial undertones that were commonplace in postwar society are evident, as the only African Americans shown within the image are laboring in rice paddies and cotton fields.
