Description

This ephemeral brochure/timetable was published in Chicago by the Poole Brothers in 1893 to promote ridership along the lines of the North-Western Railway to the Columbian Exposition, held in the Windy City that year. A wealth of information for the intrepid travel is presented; including passenger rates, information about various trains and their luxurious accommodation, a plan of Chicago, woodcut scenes from interior and exterior of the traincars, and a bird’s eye view of the fairgrounds at Jackson Park.

A four-panel map of the United States highlights the national lines of the North-Western Railway “in the rich and productive region between the Great Inland Lakes and the Rocky Mountains.” Accompanying text emphasizes the productivity of the Great Plains and asks the audience “What will be the population and wealth in 1900?”
