Description

In the years immediately following the end of WWII, Miami Beach experienced a resurgence of tourism and economic growth. This map, issued by the Chamber of Commerce in the late 1940’s, reflects that era of optimism and leisure.

High levels of disposable income, revolutions in transportation technology (alluded to near the title) and new infrastructure developments made Miami Beach more accessible than ever before. Text on the verso lauds the city’s massive construction programs, including a new auditorium, as well as public buildings, parks, schools and golf courses. The “splendid year round climate” is also heavily advertised, indicating the Chamber was looking to attract full time residents in addition to seasonal tourists.
