Description
This finely detailed plan of Stanford University was drawn by Ralph C. Arnhold and published by the Stanford Student Guide Service. It is one of several views drawn by the same cartographer that chronicle the growth of the university throughout the 1960’s and 1970’s.
This particular example is dated from 1963, and provides a comprehensive overview of the campus buildings, transportation routes, and geographic layout. Nearly 120 individual buildings are drawn, numbered, and identified in the corresponding key.
The verso of the map features extensive text, several photographs, and two additional maps. One is a simple map showing Stanford’s location in relation to the greater San Francisco area, and the second is a similar bird’s eye view promoting a walking/driving itinerary of the campus grounds.
