Description

This global history of postage was designed and published in 1979 by H.E. Harris & Company of Boston, Massachusetts. Henry Ellis Harris, founder of the firm and ‘Godfather’ of 20th-American stamp collecting, died two years earlier, after a career of over seven decades in the stamp trade.

The map, with colors very reminiscent of the 70’s, shows dozens of international stamps and their nations of origin. Images from other nations’ stamps are shown in the border, making over 100 in total. Blocks of text in each corner and within the map provide various historical facts about the history of postage and stamp collecting – “To carry messages from place to place, the Romans stationed messengers along a road at various points called ‘posta’ – from which our word “postage” was later derived.”
