Description
This colorful map is an interesting incorporation of pictorial cartography and America’s favorite pastime. While teams from various leagues are pinpointed with small pennants, the larger vignettes capture the historic ‘essence’ of America’s different regions. The influential Cuban player Mike Gonzalez can be seen in the lower right, sipping cocktails as he ponders his undeserved ban from American professional baseball.
The map was illustrated by John Collin Murphy and published in an early edition of SPORT Magazine, which was launched in 1946 as one of America’s first general-interest sports periodicals.
