Description

I’ve been unable to identify any distinguishing author or publication information on this mysterious map of Spokane, Washington. It was issued after 1941, based on the presence of Calkin’s Air Terminal in the upper center (dedicated that year). However, there is no mention of the ongoing construction of Fairchild Air Force or the convalescent hospital in Palisades Park, so it’s possible the map was issued shortly after American entry into World War II, before such projects had gotten underway.

The image shows a detailed overview of the city straddling the river of the same name. Streets, railroads, parks, and geographic features are labeled. Other locations of interest are also identified, including Ferris Field Ballpark, K.H.Q. Radio Tower, and Felts Field Municipal Airport. Red overprinting identifies local political organization down to the precinct level. Legislative districts and Commissioner’s Districts are also outlined and listed in the lower right.
