Description

This simple map of Spain and Portugal presents an innocuous image at a time of tremendous political strife in the Iberian Peninsula. In the same year of publication, Napoleon (yet to claim the title of emperor) demanded that Portugal abandon her alliance with Great Britain. The former’s refusal lit the powder keg that would eventually ignite the Peninsular War of the Napoleonic era.

Attractive hand color identifies the various kingdoms in play, while geographic features, various settlements, and other important locations are labeled throughout.

Published in London by John Walker in 1800.
