Description
This charming collection of photographs was published in Chicago around 1919 by the American Autochrome Company. Intended as a souvenir, the content captures the breathtaking architecture, diverse cultural venues, modern amenities, and successful industry of the Windy City. A panorama of the Loop shows a sea of brick buildings, punctuated by billowing smokestacks, billboards, and busy streets. One steel frame skyscraper is evidently under construction. Other notable landmarks include the Art Institute, Navy Pier, the University of Chicago, and the new Union Station (then under construction).
