China’s greatest industrial city in the second half of the 20th century.

Based on the presence of the Wusong District in the lower right inset, this map of Shanghai was likely published between 1980 and 1988, when Wusong was absorbed into the Baoshan District. The legend in the lower left identifies the symbols used for government offices, transportation routes, and more. Of interest is the English text overlaid across several key locations and streets.

At the time of publication, Shanghai was rapidly transforming itself into China’s center of economic activity and technological development. I’ve been unable to find much else about the map, as it appears to lack any distinguishable cartographer or publication data. Blank on verso.
