Founded in Decatur, Illinois, in 1976 by Bob Bledsaw and Bill Owen, Judges Guild quickly became a prominent third-party publisher for the early Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) role-playing game. They are best known for creating some of the first and most influential campaign settings, notably the massive Wilderlands of High Fantasy and the popular City-State of the Invincible Overlord. The company declined in the mid-1980s as TSR, the creators of D&D, ended their third-party licensing program, but the legacy of Judges Guild has been kept alive through re-releases and adaptations of its classic products by various other publishers and partners.
