Description
Arkansas’ Ouachita Mountains are among the state’s finest areas dedicated to nature and outdoor recreation. Numerous lakes and thermal springs, thick forests, and ample game reserves offer an abundance of year-round opportunities for leisure, with the city of Hot Springs acting as the regional hub. This attractive pictorial offers a tactile overview of the Ouachita Mountain Area, noting resort towns, the transportation network, natural landmarks, and much more. Views in the lower corners show downtown Hot Springs and its famous Bath House Row. A street map on the verso identifies points of interest and nearby cold water springs.
The piece was truly a collaborative effort, issued in 1956. The illustrated view was designed by Harry Rossoll (signed, lower right) and distributed compliments of the DeSoto Hotel & Bath House. Furthermore, the U.S. Forestry Service and Downtown Hot Springs Lions Club are also credited in the descriptive text box (upper right). The dated city plan is attributed to the Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce.
