Sea World of Texas Souvenir Map

The sixth year of operation for SeaWorld San Antonio.

First opened in 1988, Sea World of Texas (now SeaWorld San Antonio) was billed as “the largest educational, marine-life theme park in the world” and saw over 3 million visitors in its opening year of operation. However, financial difficulties ensued, and the park was sold in 1989 to Anheuser-Busch, who looked to replace some of the educational aspects with more profitable entertainment venues.

The dramatic transformation is evident on this 1993 souvenir map, designed and produced by Citigraph, Inc. of Raleigh, North Carolina. Rides, games, restaurants and guest services appear to occupy more space than the animals. A legend in the upper left notes the symbols for restrooms, telephones, first aid, and diaper-changing stations.
