Description
This gorgeous map of Scotland is split into two sheets. The Northern Part covers the counties north of Inverness, the Orkney Islands, and most of the Hebrides and includes an inset map of the Shetland Islands. The Southern Part depicts the rest of the country to the border with adjacent England and includes part of Ireland, largely devoid of detail.
On both sheets, counties are individually colored, relief is shown in hachure, and labels for place names vary in size and shape based on relative importance and political influence. Published in the 1818 edition of John Pinkerton’s Modern Atlas by Thomas Dobson & Company in Philadelphia. Engraving by Samuel Neele.
