This lovely map of the Mississippi Gulf Coast is an excellent example of cartography designed for postwar tourism. Regional aspects such as recreational opportunities, historic sites, points of interest, natural beauty, and cultural institutions are shown through a series of illustrated vignettes.

Transportation options are emphasized; highlighting convenience and accessibility via air, land, and sea. Finally, an index of accommodations, restaurants, and other modern conveniences is included to cover anything that may have been missed within the image.

A fascinating encapsulation of mid-century self-promotion, possibly issued by the Biloxi Chamber of Commerce? Printed in the late 1940’s/early 1950s in St. Louis by the Mendle Printing Company.
