Description

This neat little pamphlet was published in 1926 by the joint efforts of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of the San Gabriel Valley. On July 5th of that year, the organization hosted a special automobile tour through the valley for members of the National Editorial Association Convention held in nearby Los Angeles.

Four double-sided pages of text describe the itinerary, with departure promptly at 8 a.m. from the Alexandria Hotel. A brief summary of each town along the route highlights historical tidbits, major attractions, and important industries. Over two dozen locations are described; including Whittier, Puente, Gay’s Lion Farm (opened the year prior), Covina, Upland, and Alhambra. Penciled annotations throughout the text indicate this example may have been owned by someone who was on the trip!

A fold-out map by the Automobile Club of Southern California (co-sponsor of the expedition) provides a visual overview of the 120-mile round trip. Numerous oil fields are labeled (relatively recent discoveries), in addition to produce packing houses, educational institutions, and country clubs.
