Description

This neat little printer’s block, probably made from zinc, shows the globe-trotting route of two Christian missionaries, presumably named Griffin and Forbes. Stretching from Dakar in Africa to the jungles of New Guinea, the ‘trailblazing’ path makes stops among Saharan tribes, through the Himalayas, at the holy city of Mecca, and amid several islands in the South Pacific.

I’ve been unable to find any information about the pair of missionaries or the indicated route, though the text in the lower corner (including John 4:35) gives further indication about the map’s intended purpose. “Lift up your eyes and look on the fields for they are white, already to harvest.”
