Description

The global extent of the Philippine Airways is on full display on this souvenir hand fan, likely issued in the early 1950’s, after the company enjoyed a period of relatively uninterrupted growth after World War II. Both routes in operation and proposed routes can be seen stretching across the globe, with accompanying text claiming the network spans “2/3 of the World.”

Connecting airlines are also shown, extending to nearly every corner. The location of P.A.L. offices are identified with a star, and the verso of the fan features a large logo with the slogan “Speed, Comfort, Dependability Around 2/3 of the World.”

A fascinating relic from the early days of commercial aviation.
