Tracking company-level action from the 344th Engineers during WWII.

This is one of at least four similar maps that track the path of specific units from the 344th Engineer Regiment, in this case, H & S Companies (other examples I’ve seen show Companies D, E, and B). The impressive cartographic output when compared to other units of similar size may have something to do with the accessibility of mapmaking equipment.

A brightly colored political map of Europe is overlaid with red lines that highlight the course of H & S Companies from arrival in England in July 1942 to occupation duty in Germany three years later. Campaigns across North Africa, Italy, and France are represented simply and straightforward, with small labels noting points of major action. The Italian peninsula was so action-packed it required a special key.

The original artist is uncredited, but the map was published in 1945 by Moullot Marseille. Scarce and unlisted in OCLC. I’ve not found any market records or other online listings related to this edition.
