“Save Many Miles and the Congestion of the Larger Cities by Using Wilson Line Ferry Service” [Text on Verso]
1 in stock
Description
This ephemeral brochure was issued in 1915 as a cooperative effort between the American Automobile Association and the Wilson Ferry Lines that cross the Delaware River at Wilmington. Predating the U.S. Numbered Highway System by over a decade, the image provides a fascinating early overview of the network of motor trails around Chesapeake and Delaware Bays.
Primary automobile roads approaching the ferry route are highlighted across Delaware and Maryland, and an inset map in the upper center shows a simple city plan of Wilmington. Promotional text on the verso encourages motor tourists to ‘save many miles’ by taking the ferry to all points across New Jersey – only $1.00 per vehicle and $.15 per passenger!
