Description

This scarce metal print block captures the maneuvers of George B. McClellan around the city of Richmond during the Seven Days’ Battle. The retreating route of the supply wagons is shown with small arrows, amidst a landscape that labels different features important to the engagement. The map, designed by Samuel H. Bryant, was created in 1964 to accompany The Seven Days: The Emergence of Robert E. Lee, by Clifford Dowdey.

During the June 1862 Seven Days Battles, Union General George B. McClellan abandoned his supply base at White House Landing on the Pamunkey River due to Robert E. Lee’s offensive. McClellan shifted his base of operations to the James River, culminating in a retreat to Harrison’s Landing by July 1, effectively ending his campaign against Richmond.
