Description
Ozaukee County, Wisconsin is situated just north of Milwaukee along the shores of Lake Michigan. In 2008, Forbes Magazine ranked the county #2 on its list of America’s Best Places to Raise a Family. This map, published nearly 80 years earlier, shows the road network in operation during the early to late 1920s.
Highways are identified using a combination of numbers and letters – the first system to do so in the United States. Published by W.W. Hixson & Company of Rockford, Illinois. According to an advertisement on the front cover, the firm produced “road maps of all Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Missouri Counties.”
