Description
The assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on April 4th, 1968, sparked urban unrest and sporadic rioting in cities across the United States. Chicago was no exception – in just 48 hours of violence, eleven citizens lay dead, nearly 50 were wounded, and over 2,100 were arrested (property damage estimates were around $10 million).
This report reflects the findings of a special committee organized to study the reasons behind the 1968 Chicago Riots. Much of the blame is placed on the local residents (rather than the overwhelming police response), with the only two fold-outs providing a flow chart of the prisoner processing areas and criminal court sessions (presumably to highlight their efficiency).
