Description

This uncommon WWII map tracks the path of the 112th Infantry Regiment between Saint Lo, France on July 28, 1944, and Hessen, Germany on May 8, 1945 – V-E Day. The unit was operating as part of the 28th Infantry Division, as reflected by the insignia beneath the title, but the regiment’s actions on the beaches of Normandy have oddly been omitted from the image.

The path, highlighted in red, can be traced through France, Belgium, and Luxembourg, doubling back a few times before the Rhine was crossed into Germany. Various stops and dates are noted along the way, including Paris a few days after liberation and several engagements in the Hurtgen Forest, for which the 112th received a Distinguished Unit Citation.

Drawn by George R. Bolduan and published by Engr. Repro. Det. 12 A Gp. in 1945, probably in Germany. Rare, with only one entry listed in WorldCat at the Wisconsin Veterans Museum Research Center. OCLC# 1415861914.
