Description

This easy-to-read road map presents a portion of the famed Redwood Highway, running between the towns of Santa Rosa and Willits in Northern California. Paved and oiled roads are highlighted in red, while gravel or dirt thoroughfares are shown in black. Distances between points are noted and an interesting variety of local accommodations, geographic features, and other locations of interest are labeled. Of note is Italian Swiss Colony – one of California’s premier wine producers, undoubtedly struggling during Prohibition. A

n inset map in the lower center shows a simple street plan of Santa Rosa. Information on The Redwood Highway, a table of distances for the primary routes, and a list of recommended hotels are provided on the verso.

Published and copywritten around 1937 in San Francisco by the California State Automobile Association. C.S.A.A. branch offices are noted throughout the image with bright red stars, as well as in the inset map of Santa Rosa.
