Description

This ephemeral circular promoting the Redwood Empire of Northern California was distributed by the Redwood Empire Association in the summer of 1985. One side presents two similar maps, one showing the location of local farms and the other pinpointing regional wineries across a slightly larger area. The verso offers an index of the various businesses, all likely members of the Redwood Empire Association.

Stretching along the U.S. Route 101 corridor from San Francisco Bay into southwestern Oregon, the Redwood Empire loosely defines a dramatic coastal region of ancient old-growth forests, mist-shrouded river valleys, and rugged Pacific shorelines. Through the deliberate promotional campaigns of early regional organizations, this once-remote landscape was transformed into a heavily branded commercial and tourism corridor.
