Description
Golf has been a beloved past time in America since as early as the 17th century, especially in New York. (To give you an idea, in 1659 an ordinance was issued to prevent playing golf in the streets of Albany due to too many windows being broken). The St. Andrews Golf Club, constructed in 1897, is presently the oldest golf club documented to be in continuous existence in USA and can be found, along with 110 other courses, on this map of the New York area issued by Dunlop and Rand McNally.
Club links are shown in green, while the clubhouses are white boxes within. Sizes vary from the gigantic New Brunswick Country Club to the relatively diminutive Grassy Sprain. Also of interest are the trail markings, which show the various individually labeled highway routes serving the map’s area from Morristown to the middle of Long Island. The accompanying booklet, published by Dunlop, provides an overview of golf etiquette and offers photographs and bios of several recent Players Champions.

Condition Description: Fold lines as issued, some of which exhibit minor separation (the worst repaired on verso). One tear in the middle of the sheet, about 2", with some image loss. A few holes at fold intersections from wear, and a small spot of discoloration where the adhesive attached the map to the cover. The original paper boards are present and in fair shape, as the corresponding text is somewhat loose in the binding.
