Description
This tremendous relic of the Cold War Space Race was published by Rand McNally in 1969, the same year that Apollo 11 astronauts successfully landed on the moon’s surface for the first time. It reflects the massive contemporary interest in space exploration, even willing to recognize Soviet efforts by including photographs taken by Russian satellites on the cover.
The map presents a three-dimensional representation in which the moon’s geographic features can be clearly identified. A key in the lower left offers information on the various craters, ridges, and lowlands that comprise the alien surface. The opposite corner highlights the major lunar physiographic divisions. The verso presents a black-and-white image of the far side of the moon, formerly shrouded in darkness. Includes the original wrapper, which presents a location index for lunar features and several black and white photographs.
