Description

This charming little pocket map of Nebraska and portions of the surrounding states was created by Rand McNally in 1926 and distributed by the Motor Inn Station in Shelton. According to the legend, solid red lines indicate paved or gravel roads, hashed red lines represent improved or graded roads, and empty lines show unimproved roads (likely just dirt wagon trails).

The first category is limited primarily to route around the state’s major urban centers, and a quick addition of the labeled distance points show the total to be a mere 366 miles (approximately)! Markers for Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa, and U.S. Highways are also shown along the top of the page and numbered throughout the image. Advertisements for the B.F. Goodrich Company are present on the front cover and endpaper – “A Tire for Every Transportation Need.”
