Detailed railway map of Tokyo and suburbs, with a map of downtown Tokyo on the verso.

This is a sprawling map of Tokyo’s complex rail system, listing train, private railway, subway, and five separate types of electric car lines. In addition, three sizes of stations are detailed in the map’s legend. Greater Tokyo is home to the world’s most extensive urban rail network, with over 40 million users annually, and is still fragmented between public and private rail systems.

The map on the verso is of downtown Tokyo, focusing on the area from the Imperial Palace in Chiyoda City to Shimbashi station along the primary rail artery of the city center. Obviously designed for an English audience, street names are reduced to numerical and alphabetical values. Prominent business, hotels, government buildings and restaurants are all boldly outlined.
