Description
These four diagrammatic railroad maps were published by the United States Railway Association in 1975 in anticipation of taking over operations of the Penn Central Transportation Company the following year.
The Association was formed in 1973 as part of the Regional Rail Reorganization Act and would ultimately establish the Consolidated Rail Corporation (Conrail) to operate the lines of Penn Central and seven other railroads. Those various properties and the subsequent proposals for reorganization are shown across the four separate sheets, giving some indication as to the enormity of the undertaking.
