Description

This June 1936 issue of The Shipbuilder and Marine Engine-Builder was published by Callendar’s Cable and Construction Company, Ltd. of London. Its 200+ pages contain a wealth of technical specifications about the recently constructed Cunard Line steamer, R.M.S. Queen Mary.

The ship had its successful maiden voyage less than a month prior to publication to great fanfare, and public interest was intense. In August of 1936, the superliner won the Blue Riband for the fastest average crossing of the Atlantic Ocean.

Its various systems are covered in great detail, and the publication includes deck plans, advertisements for commercial maritime products, and full-color plates highlighting the luxurious accommodations aboard. Today, the ship is moored in Long Beach harbor and has a notably haunted reputation.
