Description

This idyllic aerial view of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico was published in 1992 with the vacationer in mind. The cleverly designed title incorporates many of the aspects that draw in thousands of tourists annually – local Spanish history, sunny weather, sailing, and natural beauty. Dozens of hotels, restaurants, attractions, and related local businesses are illustrated and labeled – offering a feast for the eyes (and the wallet).

Though the image presented is a pristine vacation destination, it only focuses on the portion of Puerto Vallarta around the cruise ship port. Much of the city was experiencing impoverished conditions around the time of publication, and the poster may have been issued to help encourage tourism during a period of overdevelopment and industry decline.

The map was drawn in 1992 by Manuel G. Barra, with collaboration by Ignacio Garcia P. and Oscar Maldanoado (Art Director). Published by Art Deio of Guadalara, Mexico.
