Description
Naval Station Puget Sound first opened in 1891, when the United States Navy purchased nearly 150 acres of property along the coast of Puget Sound, between the (later) towns of Charleston and Bremerton. Ground for the first six dry docks was broken the following year and gradual development took place over subsequent decades.
This is a plan of proposed submarine and aviation facility, originally drawn in April 1917 to accompany a report of the Commission on Navy Yards and Naval Stations. It’s a later reprinting, published by the Government Printing Office as part of a 1946 Congressional report. Various features (in addition to the aforementioned outlined installations) include barracks, a rifle range, coal pier, and hospital.
