Description
This detailed print provides a profile view and aerial overview of three decks of the S.S. Lenape, a trans-Atlantic steamship built in 1912 by the Newport News Shipbuilding Co. for the Clyde Line. After the U.S. entry into World War I, she was refitted as a troop carrier and joined the convoy that ferried the American Expeditionary Force to France.
She was returned to the Clyde Line shortly after the end of the war, and unfortunately sank at the pier in New York City in October of 1921. This print omits any reference to classes on the deck plans, but includes officers and captain’s quarters – possibly a reflection of the updates that took place to prepare the Lenape for war?
