Description
This interesting antique print shows a group of ‘penitent prostitutes’ marching in bare feet through the streets of Naples, presumably in repentance for their lustful sins. Thick corded belts wrap around simple frocks, with veils humbly covering the head.
Accompanying the women are several well-dressed men carrying bags on long poles. The one in the background shows their use – to obtain donations from curious onlookers on the second floor!

Condition Description: Copperplate engraved print on a strong sheet of paper that shows scattered damp staining in the upper third (see scan). Discoloration, soiling, and light wear in the margins, but the image and text remain mostly clean and legible. Blank on verso. About good condition overall.
