This incredibly detailed letterpress map, probably made of copper and designed for printing in a book or brochure, shows the unmistakable regimented organization of an encampment or planned residential area. The only text I’ve been able to decipher label the Main Entrance, fences or boundaries, golf course, and perhaps Cypress Ave, leading me to trend towards military purposes. Block-style buildings (barracks?) of varying sizes are carefully laid out amid a network of roads and small structures (officer housing?), enclosed by a sharp border that’s lacking on the other side of the primary thoroughfare. A river can be seen meandering along the side. Possibly Camp Anza in Riverside, though it didn’t appear to have a golf course during its World War II staging days.
