Description

This series of editorials, political cartoons, and opinion pieces were compiled and published in 1947 by the Society for the Prevention of World War III, Inc. Established in 1944, the non-profit organization promoted severe postwar restrictions on the German industrial economy that would prohibit a militaristic resurgence akin to the 1930s.

A variety of articles approach related topics, including the National Conference on the German Problem, hosted by Eleanor Roosevelt at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in March 1947. A scathing caricature on the back page shows the Old German Woman who lived in a shoe (labeled War Potential), with “So Many Children She Doesn’t Know What to Do.”
