Description

This marvelous pictorial map outlines the beloved world of Winnie the Pooh, originally written in 1926 by the author A.H. Milne and brought to life by illustrator E. H. Shepard. The 100 Aker Wood is perhaps the best known landmark from the series, though the map encompasses other areas such as the Floody Place, Sandy Pit, and a grove of trees that is particularly ‘Nice for Piknicks.’

Everyone has a home, including Christopher Robin (My House indicates the map is from his perspective) and Eeyore’s Gloomy Place, Rather Boggy and Sad. Bees are obviously an important feature, considering Pooh’s favorite food. Also of interest is the Pooh Trap for Heffalumps and Where the Woozel Wasn’t. Even the compass rose embraces the whimsical theme!

The rare poster is a colored version of Shepherd’s original, drawn for the first edition (1926) of Winnie-the-Pooh and reproduced on its endpapers. This edition was published in London in 1976 (the 50th anniversary and year of Shepard’s death) by Methuen Children’s Books, Ltd. It’s scarce on the market and in institutional collections, with three WorldCat listings noting only two holdings, at the National Library of Scotland and the National Library of New Zealand. The original 1926 drawing was sold by Sotheby’s in 2018 for 430,000 GBP.
