Description
The wildly popular Pokémon franchise began in Japan with the release of Pokémon Green and Pokémon Red for the Nintendo Game Boy in 1996. This map, believed to have come from an original version of Pokémon Red, shows the Kanto region, where the trainer would have to battle and collect eight gym badges before facing the Elite Four at Indigo Plateau (pictured in the upper left).
Major cities, routes, and other locations visited by the trainer are colorfully illustrated and labeled in Japanese. This is the only region in the Pokémon universe to be named for a real Japanese locality, and is one of eight total that can be visited across the over 120 various Pokémon games that are now available on 10 consoles and handheld devices.
