Planeten System Der Sonne
Informative hand colored map of the Solar System from Stieler’s Hand Atlas.
Densely populated with information, this celestial chart contains information that’s normally only found in much larger maps of the solar system. Diagrams of relative planet size, an inset showing the lunar cycle, and a chart listing the years in which certain asteroids were discovered are just a portion of the information that’s presented within the German text. The map is dominated by a superbly detailed representation of the solar system as it was understood at time of publication (omitting Pluto, of course), which was done by Justus Perthe at Gotha. The publication, Stielers Hand Atlas, dominated the 19th century German atlas market and was issued in ten editions from 1816 to 1945.
