Description

This fascinating street plan offers a detailed overview of Yonkers shortly after the American Civil War. The footprints of buildings are individually outlined, with notable structures labeled. Local industries include a brewery, steam engine works, silk manufacturer, and sugar factory. The extensive grounds of the Otis Elevator Company is shown, but not labeled. Scores of landholders and property owners are named, providing a valuable genealogical reference.

The map was originally issued in 1867 as part of an Atlas of New York and Vicinity, published by F.W. Beers, A.D. Ellis, and C.G. Soule.
