Description

First opened in 1913, the Plaza Athenee is a luxury hotel in Paris located just a few blocks from the Champs Elysees and still in operation today (rooms range from $1,500 – $20,000/night). This double-sided map was by distributed the hotel in the early 1970s for its English-speaking patrons, based on the language of the fold-out informational text.

One side of the map shows a convoluted overview of central Paris and its robust transportation network of subways and bus routes. The verso is presented in the style of the ‘Paris Plan Monumental’ – identifying major landmarks with stylized vignettes over a simplified road map. The map was created by P. Defosse and published by L’Indispensable in Paris.
